The Leviathan

It was a giant!
A monstrous beast!
Hear my words you wise men
For the ear tests words as the tongue tastes food
Can you pull in the leviathan with a fishhook?
Who dares open the doors of his mouth, ringed about with
Fearsome teeth?
For it was he that attacked and swallowed the moon!
As firebrands and sparks streamed from his clamped mouth
And smoke poured from his nostrils, the moon became
Brighter!
Unaffected by the earthly devil, the previously impenetrable jaws
Flung open and the moon shot out!
The leviathan floated away tired, sore and defeated!
He was never seen again and is recalled only as folklore
But he will return some day
When the moon is brightest
And days are numbered
He will slither in unnoticed and rise into the sky
Appearing out of nowhere and to everyone's surprise
He will blast his fire and blow our houses down
And the moon will still be shining and going round and round
But seeing isn't knowing and knowing won't be found!
Oh yes, the days are precious few
And fewer yet for those who slumber
For they will be trapped and die in great numbers
And those that remain will wish to die, and die they will, from
Overwhelming hunger
And the moon will shine brighter!
